Metrofire Hazmat Vehicle Coverage Plan

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this procedure is to define the general procedures for providing coverage for the District Hazmat Vehicles, and to respond to requests for hazmat vehicle coverage from any of the other State Hazmat Districts.

GENERAL:
The following procedure is to be implemented when A) it is necessary to remove either of our response vehicles from service for an extended period of time (a 24hr period, or more) for maintenance or due to its inability to respond for any reason: or B) when vehicle coverage is requested by another Hazmat District.

PROCEDURE:

A) for coverage into Metrofire

The District Hazmat Team Coordinator should be notified of any planned or unplanned out of service period by the response vehicle housing community. The Team Coordinator will implement the plan. He will notify the State Hazardous Materials Response Directors office of the situation.

The Team Coordinator shall notify Metrofire Control by telephone and FAX of the situation.

The Team Coordinator shall notify the Covering Team Coordinator by telephone of the plan implementation and the Covering District Control Center by FAX.

If a request is received for a Hazmat Team Response from one of the Metrofire Communities while a vehicle is out of service, contact Hazmat District 3 (Natick Control - Fire District 14) @ 508-653-2323 and request that the appropriate vehicle be dispatched to the incident location; a TOM's - Tactical Operations Module if Truck 21 is out of service and / or (for Tier 2 & 3 responses only) an ORU - Operational Response Unit if Truck 22 is out of service. This request should include the location of the incident, the staging area, directions and any other information pertinent to the out of district driver.

B) for coverage out of Metrofire

Should Hazmat District 1 (Barnstable County Control - Fire Districts 1 or 2), or Hazmat District 6 (Chelmsford Control - Fire District 5 or 15) implement their vehicle coverage plan the Metrofire Control Center will receive FAX notification and the Team Coordinator will receive telephone notification that coverage may be necessary.

If either Hazmat District requests a Hazmat vehicle (by type) for a response, the Metrofire Control Center will be notified by telephone. The request should include the location of the incident, the staging area, directions and any other information pertinent to the out of district driver.< /p>

Once such a response request is received, the Metrofire Control Center should send out a Hazmat Team page requesting a driver for the needed vehicle. Example: Team; request from Dist.___ for TOM's unit. Driver needed - contact Metrofire @ 617-343-2880

Once a driver is located and the vehicle is responding, the Metrofire Control Center should announce the dispatch over the radio, inform the driver of the location of the incident, the staging area, directions and any other pertinent information. A Hazmat page should go out informing members that a driver has been found. The requesting District should be notified by telephone of the ETA of the vehicle.
