Use of Metrofire Foambank

METROFIRE has re-established its' foambanks for district use. The three foambank locations are Woburn, Quincy and Newton. These foambanks will be backed up by supplies at MASSPORT; and the resources of Hanscom Air Force Base who has volunteered to support us as needed.

The approved foam stored at the foambank locations is Angus Alcoseal, a multi-purpose film forming fluoroprotein foam compound (FFFP) compatible with other foams. It may be used at 3% on hydrocarbon fuels or at 6% on polar solvents. (Underwriters Lab triple tested as an AFFF, Fluoroprotein and Alcohol type foam.)

Woburn & Quincy will each stock 200 gallons and Newton will stock 300 gallons, (all in 5 gallon pails) the extra supply for resale as a common purchase pool for community needs. Each foambank location will maintain responsibility for the proper storage and emergency delivery of their foam supply.

Reimbursement for foam used from the bank or purchased from the bank will be made to the METROFIRE treasury at the going replacement price. Communities will be invoiced for the foam used (or sold) and will be responsible for seeking reimbursement from third parties where appropriate.

The Control Center is charged with requesting foam for emergency use from the appropriate foambank or banks, on request from the community in need. Communities shall request foam by contacting the Control Center and providing information on the exact location, the type of incident, best routes and command post information.

Annually, the Common Purchase and Foam Committees shall determine from the member communities the estimate of their purchase requirements as an aid in determining METROFIRE bulk purchase.
